NO! The sale of infrared aiming lasers is strictly regulated in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration, Center for Devices and Radiological Health. Pursuant to FDA requirements, infrared aiming lasers are only available for export and for direct sale to law enforcement and military agencies under special exemptions.I want to align the aiming laser on my rifle for accuracy at 100 yards, but I cannot see the laser point on the target at the range at that distance in bright sunlight?
LDI uses the brightest red laser point allowed by law. Our laser points are visible in bright sunlight out to approximately 30 meters. If you want to align your laser at 100 or 200 yards in bright light, you will need to purchase one of LDI’s Accur-Aim™ targets. The Accur-Aim targets reflect back the laser light striking the target so that you can see the laser point and align the sight.Shooting Accuracy
Do laser sights offer any advantage over the standard open sight mounted on my pistol?
Laser sights offer a significant increase in shooting effectiveness in night and in low-light environments. While at the range, you may have noticed that as the sun sets, it becomes increasingly difficult for your eye to distinguish the target when looking over an open sight. As the light becomes dimmer, it is more difficult to see the target even though you may still be able to resolve the shape of the target. Laser aiming devices offer unmatched accuracy and shooting effectiveness in a low light environment because they make it easier to focus on a target.
Those sound great, but is there any independent confirmation of these benefits?
YES! A few years ago the Naval Surface Warfare Center and the United States Army Special Operations Command conducted joint Operational Testing on a visible laser aiming system. Representatives from the Army, Navy and Air Force Special Operations units evaluated laser-aiming systems with the stated goal of determining the versatility and possible increases in operational shooting effectiveness in Close Quarter Battle ("CQB") conditions to 300 meters. Conducted on the M-4 rifle, the tests indicated that laser sights increased aiming accuracy 15% in low-light environments over the standard M-4 Carbine with flashlight. In fact, they determined that "The increase in effectiveness shown through the user assessment was 43% over the baseline iron sights with a flashlight. (Average for 5 shooters – stationary). During other testing at Ft. Campbell, KY it [the laser] was 10% more effective (moving through a CQB shoot house) than the baseline sights and 52% more effective when an NBC mask was employed."That is great news for Military Units and Law Enforcement organizations. However, can laser aiming systems help the average shooter?
YES! If a laser aiming device can offer this type of significant improvement to the shooting effectiveness of a highly-trained Special Operations Team operating in low light with a flashlight while moving through a Close Battle Quarters Shoot house, it should offer similar or even greater shooting effectiveness for the average law enforcement and home defense users operating under similar conditions. Can I also use the laser aiming device to improve my shooting skills?
YES! Aiming lasers are frequently used by professional firearms trainers to improve marksmanship skills. The red dot on the target provides instant feedback concerning important marksmanship skills like trigger control and follow-through. Even a novice shooter can visually see the laser dot move swiftly across the target when jerking the trigger. Likewise, holding the laser point on the center of the target while smoothly triggering the firearm, will quickly reinforce proper trigger control skills. Another skill that can easily be taught by trainers using an aiming laser is follow-through. Many novice shooters when they first shoot at a moving target tend to stop or hesitate as they pull the trigger. During the fraction of a second that it takes the hammer to fall and impact the cartridge, the target continues to move while the bullet travels to the original aim point. Using an aiming laser allows the trainer and the student to immediately diagnose the hesitation or stop, as the laser point will trail off the target before the hammer falls.Could laser aiming devices deter a potentially violent assailant?
YES! Several police agencies have reported that laser aiming devices clearly added an additional less-than-lethal force alternative. In moments of tension and high stress, an officer’s verbal commands to a suspect at gunpoint often go unanswered. These are critical moments when the officer must make split-second, life or death decisions. The visual impact of the red laser dot has assisted officers in quickly gaining compliance. Kevin Stich of the Newberg Police Department, Oregon said in the April 1998 edition of Law Enforcement Technology, “[In one case] pointing the laser dot on a suspect convinced him to give up, where verbal commands didn't work.”We have heard several antidotes from law enforcement customers in the past concerning tense situations that were suddenly defused when the good guys decided to deploy an aiming laser. In our view, if using an aiming laser will improve the likelihood of ending a standoff, or if it frightens off a potential assailant without a shooting, it is well worth trying. As such, we believe that an aiming laser is an appropriate device to be used as part of your threat continuum.
Tactical Flashlights
Do LDI's tactical flashlights come with batteries?
YES! All of LDI's products are supplied with batteries. Are LDI's tactical flashlights waterproof?
YES! Unlike products from some of our competitors, all of LDI's OP-6, OV-1 and SIG Pro lights are waterproof to a minimum depth of 20 meters (over 65 feet). How bright are your tactical flashlights?
LDI's 6-volt OP-6 and OV-1 flashlights are rated at 95 lumens of light output. The 9-volt and LED lights are rated at 150 lumens. In addition, the lights are a very white light (2000K), which makes it easier to identify colors and details in the area being illuminated.
